About Claudia

Born in Portugal, later licensed and mastered by FBAUL, Fine Arts University in Lisbon. Illustrated “A Última Semente” Manga, published by Midori Editora, Concept Artist and Storyboarder for All.Comics, contributing to “Most Wanted”, an ongoing Webcomic on the Webtoon platform. Teaches Drawing and Concept Art classes online internationally while collaborating with other artists/authors on new projects, in addition to personal ones and the help from sugary coffees.
Currently living in London, invested to get involved in different and new artistic projects and art styles, exhibiting in galleries and events.

I believe that having an open and comfortable connection through communication and understanding, between student and teacher, holds the key to a better development and creative secure and positive progress.

The class methodology is relaxed and is done through a good communication and openness, for a creative environment.

The subjects will be given according to the student's path, level, and adaptation to the disciplines.
Always involving theory with practice through exercises and challenges proposed throughout the classes. The aim is for the students to develop their artistic individualism and creation method.

Classes are for anyone interested or curious who wants to explore their skills and imagination.
(Usually, I don't teach children younger than 9 years old)

  • When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I discovered Superprof just before the pandemic in 2019 when I started teaching, after finishing my master's degree in Drawing. Since then, I continued to teach at Superprof.
  • Which artists or works affect you the most?

Some of the artists who inspire me and who have always captivated me, whether by the creativity of each old and new work, or by the detail of their artistic style, or those who I have always tried to follow are, Alessandro Barbucci, Gustave Doré, Hieronymus Bosch, Old Xian, Alice Oseman, Hirohiko Araki, Eiki Eiki, The GRIMM Brothers, Jeeyoung Lee or Sarah Anderson.
All of them authors, illustrators, painters, sculptors, artists from different branches, countries, cultures, eras, styles, concepts and yet all of them possess such a rich creativity and fantastic world.
  • What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?

I would say that good and sincere communication, sharing freedom of expression, ideas and creativity, between student and teacher, are part of the key to a good and more relaxed relationship, better learning and ease during class.
  • What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

Focus on your goals. Make a short list of things you want to do and achieve, make it organized, either by order of wish, or simplicity to achieve.
Research to your heart's content, pictures, documents, texts, books, magazines, music, stories, communication, take time for it.
Last but not least, also try to take "Me time" where you can boost your creativity. Focus on yourself, and your creativity without pressure, draw, sketch, write, listen to music, go for walks, a coffee or food maybe, chill, take a nap, you might feel inspired or energized after it. Think of your projects in a ease way.
  • How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

The best thing about being a teacher is the constant sharing of knowledge with students. The infinite possibilities of designs, ideas and imagination. The pleasure that exists in meeting new people, new cultures, tastes and creativity. Passions that are exchanged and new things that are experienced. As a teacher, we are always being surprised and also learning.
I think my second passion besides drawing and concept art is music. It's always good to be able to share or combine different arts and even bring knowledge in different areas and be able to do a mix of themes in classes.
  • What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

Recently the Portuguese manga in which I have participated as an illustrator since 2019, "A Última Semente", belonging to Midori Editora, received the opportunity to be physically edited.
The manga was discussed and presented at various pop culture, anime, gaming, and literature events nationwide last year, previous years, and this year, and will be released in stores later this year!
  • Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

With several, for different reasons and in different fields, whether due to the maturity of thought, the level of imagination, or self-criticism, or the drastic evolution of just one month progress.
However, the case that continues to fascinate me the most is that of a dear student I met last year when he was just nine years old. I can say with certainty, he is a genius.
Despite being so young, he demonstrates a huge capacity for debating topics and personalities, from artists, politics or history. He has a fertile imagination and creates the most fascinating scenarios not only in drawing but also in manual arts, from iconic scenes and moments in history, to the way he explains why he made each detail.
He conveys a huge motivation in creating characters or drawing celebrities, or historical figures, or important figures in society and creating dialogues between them.
He also has self-knowledge, and is not afraid to try new exercises or new materials.
  • Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

    Be myself. Be natural.
Let the class, the subject and the communication flow, give space and time to the student. Do not force methods, but keep in mind that trying out various alternative teaching methods, whether theoretical or practical, demonstrates empathy towards the student.
Pull and motivate them through topics and themes that can be included in the class and that appeal to the student. Listen to the student's opinion and allow them to express themselves freely.
Be patient, not everyone has the same rhythm and motivate, communicate openly and speak honestly.
