About Gan

Hello! My name is Gan Gao, and I am a dedicated medical student with a strong passion for helping others succeed academically and to maximise your chance of getting into medical school.

My HSC ATAR was 99.50 (top 0.5%) of NSW, with currently a High Distinction WAM at University of New South Wales Medicine program.

Having navigated the rigorous journey of medical school myself, and transferred from previous physiotherapy degree to medicine, I understand how challenging it can be to master complex subjects and prepare for interviews, especially considering the fact that medical interview could be so different to other interviews. You don't wanna pass all the entry requirement but fail in interview!

I want to teach because I truly believe that learning is a partnership—it's not just about conveying information, but about helping students build the confidence and skills they need to succeed independently. As a tutor, my goal is to make challenging topics and questions more approachable, so students can be more prepared to succeed in their medical school application. About the lesson

As a tutor, my approach is student-centered, aiming to build both understanding and confidence in the subject matter. I use a combination of active learning and scaffolded instruction to encourage independent thinking, followed by active recalling to help students utilise the tips they learn from the session to apply to various questions they may encounter in a medical school interview flexibly. For example, I tend to run a simulated medical interview with students using high-yield questions I prepare in advance (according to past medical interviews and my own successful interview experience), and provide individualised feedback and advice to students after hearing and analysing their responses. I also prioritise critical thinking by encouraging students to apply their knowledge to practical problems, which is particularly useful for medical school interview preparation; giving them a bit about what the interviewers want to hear about and what real medical school life is like in NSW. Also happy to help with Math HSC courses, with my previous tutoring experience at 90+ Education Centre at various sites of NSW. Lessons typically last 60 to 90 minutes, providing enough time for a thorough review of the material, active problem-solving, and follow-up questions and feedbacks. I hold a strong academic background, with HSC ATAR in the top 0.5% of the state and currently studying medical degree with high distinction WAM; and have been tutoring high school students in subjects like chemistry, and mathematics between the years 2019-2020. My lessons are suited for high school students preparing for medical school interviews (or information about medical school), or anyone looking to strengthen their understanding of core subjects for exams. I tailor each session to the student's unique needs, helping them meet their academic goals while building their overall study skills.
