About Jonathon

Hi! I'm a Brown University undergraduate, U.S. Army veteran, and former Department of State professional passionate about education, literature, music, and helping others develop their intellectual potential.

Before attending Brown, I served five years in the U.S. Army as an Intelligence Analyst, achieving the rank of Sergeant and graduating with honors from my military intelligence training. I subsequently worked at the U.S. Department of State, supporting senior officials in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research.

At Brown, I’ve pursued interdisciplinary studies encompassing creative writing, literature, music, history, and philosophy. I also serve as a veteran mentor, helping fellow students navigate academic life and develop the confidence to succeed.

My tutoring approach is individualized, encouraging, and intellectually engaging. I believe effective education goes beyond memorization: it’s about developing the ability to reason independently, ask meaningful questions, and build lasting confidence in one’s own abilities.

I recognize that no two students learn in exactly the same way. My goal is to meet students where they are, adapt to their individual learning styles, and help them discover not just how to succeed academically, but how to genuinely enjoy learning.

Whether you want to strengthen your writing, sharpen your analytical skills, or become a more confident student, I’d be delighted to help you reach your goals!

About the lesson

Hey! I like to focus on the fundamentals; a writer can't write until they've read their preferred genre in depth. I also focus on "embodying" the character's perspective and building a detailed world to understand the self and the story.
