About Yesenia
Welcome :)
I am a Cal State Long Beach graduate with a Bachelor's degree focused in English: Creative Writing. I specialize in helping students build their confidence in regards to their reading, writing, and comprehension skills. My goal is to help make learning these skills together a positive and engaging experience where they can feel safe to express their concerns and work through them in a productive way and take these skills with them to their school environment.

Lessons would be in the evening, earliest at 5:30 pm.
I focus on teaching at the middle and high school level by helping students create their essays, analyze literature for better comprehension skills and refining their ideas and self expression through creative writing. Each lesson follows a routine as follows:
The first 5 mins.- Check in and set a goal for the session. Then a writing warm up and share a few sentences.
Next 15 mins- if student has questions from assignments we can review the lesson or if no questions we can go over a guided reading and practice color coding important words or information and write down questions to answer at the end to check comprehension.
Next 30 mins-Hands on practice where we can co-write analysis to the readings, help in editing essays they may have, or brainstorm ideas of specific concepts within the reading.
Final 10 mins- Have students self-reflect on what they learned, if it was helpful, set goals or tips on what skills they felt can help them in their schoolwork.
