About David

Experienced tutor with students of ages 8 to 35 years. Currently tutoring in maths, physics, chemistry, beginners english, biology and primary science. At GCSE and A-Level (including International GCSE) as well as National 5 and Higher (for those in Scotland).

Currently in 5th year of a Chemistry degree at the University of Glasgow.

Extensive knowledge of undergraduate chemistry. Lang scholarship for outstanding achievement in level 3 chemistry. Various school of chemistry prizes. Work experience at GSK in medicinal chemistry. Predicted 1st.

Hold 11 A’s between National 5 and Higher.
Former Head Boy of Cedars School of Excellence.
Dux award for top marks across all subjects at school.
I also hold numerous other school trophies and certificates in various subjects.

My tutorials are relaxed and are individually personalised. I’m here to help you all the way to an A in your final exam.

I’ll help with everything from times tables right through to vector algebra. I only left school three years ago so I’m just like you but with more experience.

In my tutorials I wish to hone in on three key skills for any student of maths to possess.
1. Clear, logical and careful presentation of written work. Mathematics must be presented in clear, concise and uncluttered terms. It must “look good” on paper!
2. Knowledge of the mathematical network of ideas. Learning to see how different concepts connect and reinforce each other.
3. Self proofing/checking work. Learning how to prove your work is correct without the answer sheet.

The tutorial structure consists of:
- Overviewing the students “Course information document” and highlighting the areas they wish to focus on.
- Going through written examples to explain concepts.
- Using a simple one-step-at-a-time method to build confidence in answering long questions.
- Putting skills together in practicing exam style questions.
- Advise on exam techniques (including setting out working, rounding, drawing diagrams etc...)
- Problem solving exercises to give practice in applying knower techniques to new questions. Developing problem solving techniques.
- Tailored revision guidance and feedback.

Also offering advice in progressing further in education, UCAS applications and getting ready to start university.

My skills are not limited to my main subject Maths. I will also tutor Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science up to and including Scottish Higher. And give advice in English, History, Physics and Administration and IT if your also studying these subjects.
