I can help you improve your English reading and writing skills! I am an Ottawa-based English tutor. I hold a Master in English Literature degree, and an Honours Diploma in Professional Writing.

About Joan
I hold a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Toronto, and a Master in Environmental Studies degree from York University. My thesis for the Environmental Studies degree focused on Indigenous culture.
In addition to my university degrees, I also have an Honours Diploma in Professional Writing.
My professional history includes working as a writer, editor, and researcher for newspapers, magazines, blogs, as well as, non-profit organizations.
I also have experience as a high school English Teacher Assistant, and as a tutor at the university level.

I do not find that the same method of teaching works for all students. It depends on their personalities and what level they are at in their English skills.
I try to make learning relevant to the students' interests. They are more attentive and learn easier if they actually care about what they are being taught.
I make the lessons challenging, but not so tough that my students get frustrated and stop trying.

Details
My hourly rate is the same for all levels.
Transportation fees will be excluded, if I am driven to and from the client's home, or place of teaching.
A 30 percent cancellation fee is required.
