About Ellie

I have 10 A* grades at GCSE including English and Maths. I achieved two A* grades in English Literature and Biology at A level, as well as an A in Modern History. I have a Level 4 diploma in Speech and Drama. I attended a state comprehensive school. I have passed the English and Numeracy professional skills tests and the Curriculum Knowledge Assessment for English Literature and English Language GCSEs. I have worked for three years as an Access Ambassador and student mentor at my college, providing tours and application guidance to visiting students from ages 11 to 18. I enjoy this work immensely and three of the students that I have worked with are currently studying at my college, after applying after their visits in year 13. I am also Dyspraxic, and have been provided with excellent mentoring and study skills sessions by the university for this.

About me:
I give lessons to secondary and sixth form students. I tutor Biology and English to GCSE, and Sociology to A Level. I am a friendly Welsh finalist at Cambridge university studying Human, Social and Political Sciences and specialising in Sociology.

I come from a small town called Hay-on-Wye in rural Wales. Alongside my studies, I like to rock climb and play netball. I will begin teacher training with Teach First in June, and love to help people.

Experience:
I have passed the English and Numeracy professional skills tests and the Curriculum Knowledge Assessment for English Literature and English Language GCSEs. I have worked for three years as an Access Ambassador and student mentor at my college, providing tours and application guidance to visiting students from ages 11 to 18. I enjoy this work immensely and three of the students that I have worked with are currently studying at my college, after applying after their visits in year 13. This has been lovely to see!

I am also Dyspraxic, and have been provided with excellent mentoring and study skills sessions by the university for this. I run a blog which gives advice to Dyspraxic students, which you can find by typing 'Dyspraxia Survival Guide' into a search engine.

Teaching methods
My teaching methods are taken from Teacher Toolkit, TES teaching resources and the Teach First Incoming Participant portal, which has many resources taken from previous ambassadors of the scheme, as well as research-backed approaches. I like to make my lessons interactive and fun! I do this by preparing quizes and mnemonics, taking the exam specification to do this. I also add interesting details and facts which aren't on the specification to ensure students' exam answers stand out, and to aid memory through piquing interest in a topic. Although based around interactive and engaging learning, I take a very structured approach to lesson planning. I do this by taking a particular area or point on a specification, and creating learning objectives for each lesson to ensure this section is learnt. I include a recap of these objectives at the end of each lesson. As a Dyspraxic student, I understand that students learn in a number of different ways. I ensure to discuss with the student how they like to learn, and adapt my lessons to suit their style and strengths.
