About Melissa
I hold a master’s degree in education specializing in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), and I have been a licensed teacher in Nevada for nine years. I have also taught English as a second language in other countries, giving me the opportunity to work with students from different backgrounds and experience a variety of approaches to teaching and learning.
My international teaching experience has helped me understand that there is no single approach that works for every learner. I bring this perspective into my lessons by adapting my instruction to each student’s individual needs, strengths, learning style, and goals.
I am passionate about creating a positive learning environment where students feel supported, understood, and confident. I enjoy helping learners discover what works best for them and celebrating their progress along the way.

My reading and literacy lessons are individualized to meet each learner’s needs, strengths, learning style, and current skill level. I use a variety of teaching techniques and activities to support different types of learners and make lessons engaging, encouraging, and effective.
For young and developing readers, I use the Spalding curriculum to provide structured phonics instruction and build a strong foundation in reading. I also incorporate hands-on blending activities to help students connect sounds, letters, and words and develop greater confidence when reading independently.
As students develop their skills, I incorporate reading comprehension strategies to help them understand, think about, and respond to what they read. Lessons can also include spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and writing instruction so students develop strong overall literacy skills.
My goal is to meet students where they are, build on what they already know, and provide the instruction and practice they need to become confident, capable readers and writers.
