About Daniele

Hi! I'm a TEFL-certified English teacher and a native English speaker, born and raised in the United States. In addition to over seven years of experience teaching English to students of all ages, I have a burgeoning musical career: I play the double bass and teach music theory. I currently serve as principal double bass at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, where precision, discipline, and a passion for communication are at the heart of every performance.

I bring these same qualities to my language classroom: personalised lessons, practical methodologies, and an engaging approach that makes learning English fluid and fun. Whether you want to improve your conversation skills, prepare for exams, or hone your pronunciation, I'll be happy to guide you on your language journey.

Teaching techniques and methods:

Communicative learning – I focus on the ability to use language in real-world situations. Activities are geared toward oral and written production, rather than just memorising grammatical rules.
Comprehensive Input – I provide material that is slightly more advanced than the student’s level, but still understandable thanks to visual aids, context, and simplified explanations.

Task-based learning – Each lesson revolves around a specific task (e.g., planning a trip, writing a review, or simulating a phone call). Students learn the grammar and vocabulary needed to complete the task.
Immediate and targeted feedback – During activities, I correct errors constructively, distinguishing between “global” errors (which compromise understanding) and “local” errors (called “formal errors”).

Integrated technology – Use multimedia resources (videos, podcasts, interactive quizzes) and collaborative platforms (Google Docs, Padlet) to make learning more dynamic and encourage independent practice.

Differentiation – Adapt materials and activities to the different needs of students (learning styles, speed of progress, personal interests).

How a typical lesson unfolds:

Warm-up / Activation (≈ 5 min)
Short pun or ice-breaker question (“What's the most interesting thing you did last weekend?”).
Purpose: Reduce anxiety, activate already known vocabulary.

Input (≈ 10 min)
Listening to a short audio/video + reading a text with new vocabulary and structures highlighted.
Purpose: To provide understandable input and introduce new content.

Linguistic focus (≈ 10 min)
Mini-lesson on a grammatical structure or set of expressions (explanation, examples, mini-fill-in exercises).
Purpose: To consolidate the linguistic form necessary for the task.

Main task (≈ 20 min)
Collaborative activity: For example, students work in small groups to create a travel itinerary using the expressions they just learned, or they write a short email requesting information.
Purpose: To apply the new language in a meaningful context.

Feedback and correction (≈ 10 min)
Sharing results, collective correction of the most frequent errors, rapid individual feedback.
Purpose: To reinforce correct learning and clarify any doubts.

Consolidation / Homework (≈ 5 min)
Assignment of reinforcement exercises (online quizzes, recording of a short oral response) and directions for independent practice.
Purpose: To ensure continuity of learning outside of class.

Teaching specificities

Pronunciation – Listening-repetition exercises based on minimal pairs and natural intonation, supported by phonetic analysis software.

Thematic Vocabulary – Vocabulary organized into 'semantic fields' (eg, travel, work, technology) to facilitate memorization and contextual use.

Culture – Brief moments dedicated to customs, habits, and cultural references (eg, holidays, idioms) to develop pragmatic competence.

Autonomy – Introduction to self-correction strategies (learning diary, recording your own voice) and reliable online resources (BBC Learning English, Cambridge Dictionary).

Who are the lessons aimed at?

Primary school (8–12 years) – Levels A1–A2. Playful activities, illustrated storytelling, role-playing games.

Secondary school (ages 13–18) – Levels A2–B2. Exam preparation (IELTS, TOEFL), debates, research projects.

University students – Levels B1–C1. Academic and professional English, scientific article analysis, writing workshops.

Adults (workers, travelers) – Levels A1–C2. Work situations, meetings, emails, intensive Business English courses.

Seniors / lifelong learners – Levels A1–B1. Slower pace, large visuals, guided conversations on topics of personal interest.

In summary

My method combines real-world communication, task-based learning, and thoughtful use of technology to make each lesson engaging, relevant, and adaptable to different levels and ages. The goal is not just to teach language skills, but to develop confidence and the ability to use English fluently and independently.
