About Grace

I am a Biomedical Science graduate from Keele University and a current Medical Student at the University of Edinburgh Medical School. My journey into Medicine has taught me the importance of perseverance, resilience and believing in your own potential, and these are qualities I aim to encourage in every student I work with.
I have always had a strong interest in Biology and the sciences, and my Biomedical Science degree gave me a broad understanding of biological and medical concepts. I now have the opportunity to continue developing this knowledge through my medical studies.
I understand that Biology can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when there is a lot of information to remember. My aim is to make difficult topics feel more manageable by breaking them down into clear, understandable explanations and helping students develop effective ways of learning rather than simply memorising content.
I also understand how daunting the medical school application process can be. Having successfully navigated the journey myself, I can offer practical guidance alongside encouragement and honest feedback. Whether a student is just beginning to consider Medicine or is preparing for interviews, I want them to feel supported and confident throughout the process.
Most importantly, I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. There is no such thing as a “stupid” question in my lessons. I believe students learn best when they feel listened to, respected and encouraged, and I aim to create a positive environment where they can develop both academically and personally.
My goal is not simply to help students achieve better grades, but to help them become more confident, independent learners who understand what they are studying and believe in their ability to succeed.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is personalised, supportive and focused on helping students build both their knowledge and confidence. I understand that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to their individual strengths, weaknesses and learning needs.
I offer a free 45-minute initial consultation to assess the student’s current understanding, identify areas that may need improvement and discuss their goals. This also allows the student to experience my teaching style and decide whether I would be a good fit for them before committing to regular lessons.
For GCSE Biology and below, lessons typically combine clear explanations of key concepts with active recall, questioning, exam-style questions and regular feedback. At the beginning of each lesson, I spend approximately 10–15 minutes revisiting and testing knowledge from the previous lesson. This helps identify any areas that have not been fully understood and strengthens long-term retention rather than relying solely on memorisation. We then move on to new content at a pace that suits the student, with opportunities to ask questions and work through challenging topics together.

Lessons can be 1–2 hours, depending on the student's age, concentration and individual needs. For a 90-minute lesson, I include a short 5-minute break, while a 2-hour lesson includes approximately 10 minutes of breaks. I believe breaks are particularly important for younger students and help maintain concentration throughout the lesson.

I also offer medical school application support for students considering a career in Medicine. This can include guidance with the UCAS application, personal statement/application preparation, UCAT preparation and strategy, progress checks, interview practice and MMI-style questions. I can also provide constructive feedback and help students develop their confidence when communicating their experiences and motivations for studying Medicine.
Having personally gone through the medical school application process, I understand that it can feel overwhelming. I aim to provide practical guidance, encouragement and honest feedback while helping students become more confident and independent throughout the process.
Whether a student needs help understanding a difficult Biology topic, preparing for GCSE examinations or navigating the early stages of a medical school application, I aim to make each session structured, encouraging and tailored to their individual goals.
