About Lorena

So far I've been giving language lessons for about 5 years. I have had German students learning Spanish and Spanish students learning English with success. My teaching methods have served very well especially for those students studying for exams or wishing to learn the language while studying.

About the lesson

Hello everyone. My name is Lorena, a soon-to-graduate college student and a freelance after-school language teacher. I am bilingual in English and Spanish as I have British nationality and study my career in English but have lived in Spain practically all my life. Furthermore, I am very hardworking and dedicated in what I do with a great passion for languages.

Currently I aim my supplementary classes at primary, secondary and high school, foreign or native students, who have any difficulty with English and Castilian academic subjects, whether it is grammar, reading comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary, writing, hearing or something more concrete. The difficulty can take the form of unsatisfactory marks, lack of understanding, inconsistency with finding an effective method of study or just needing a helping hand to overcome a certain type of homework (essays, projects and presentations). These classes also serve as a refresher for those students who have failed the English and / or Castilian last year and have to retake the exam to pass the course. In a given class, we focus on reviewing the content of the unit if necessary and approach the exam key points, one by one. Then we reserve a portion of the time to explain any questions or concepts, using diagrams, rules of thumb, examples, conversation, demonstrations and individual exercises, all until it is well assimilated and worked with ease. I'll be willing to translate whatever they want as long as they're intending to learn and make serious progress. Then, on the next class to come, I always tend to bring revising material in relation to the previous class, with interactive exercises to do in class which I correct in front of them. Occasionally, I would also bring magazines and newspapers in the language they are learning. It is needless to say that classes are tailored to the needs of the student, the level of understanding and focus of the exam. The classes are very productive, interesting and everything comes with patience, a lot of communication, encouragement, empathy and motivation. I also put myself in the place of students and I come to understand what they expect, their goals, their weaknesses and their strengths.
