About Des
Trained at UCL’s prestigious Slade School of Fine Art, I earned a Master’s in figure Painting, so bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to my teaching.
I am an expert in the use of Oil painting as well as Acrylics.
With many years of experience teaching in the UK’s top art schools, and currently a visiting lecturer at UCL, Slade School of Fine Art.
I also teach at The Royal Academy of Arts Museum, London, on their artist workshop programme.

If you’re looking to develop your artistic skills with expert guidance from a professional artist with years of experience teaching and exhibiting, I may be the person you’re looking for.
I have a friendly relaxed and supportive approach to teaching allowing students to develop their own style and at their own pace.
My teaching approach, I would often start with the basics, such as, looking at your set-up, and what materials you need to get started, I then set simple drawing exercises with the aim of building confidence and understanding your process. Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced I can tailor a programme that’s right for you.
Absolute beginners as well as experience welcome.
Being a good artist isn’t about having natural talent; it’s about getting the right information and applying that information in your practice.

I can’t imagine a better drawing tutor than Des. He taught my intensive portrait workshop at the RA and it was a fantastic experience for a beginner like me.
