About Mia

Hi, I’m Mia! I’m currently studying Law at Trinity College Dublin, in final year, while continuing to pursue a longstanding interest in art alongside my degree. My ambition is to someday combine the two! Working for Christie’s would be my dream!

I achieved a H1 in Leaving Certificate Art and continue to draw and paint, with a particular interest in portraiture and oil painting, but understand how to relay that into a tangible instructive lesson. I am also involved with Trinity Arts Workshop and have always enjoyed the balance between the creativity of art and the more structured, academic side of my studies.

Having completed the Leaving Certificate relatively recently, I remember how overwhelming a subject can feel when you are putting in the work but do not have the structure or direction you need. Art in particular can feel very open-ended: you may have the ability and ideas, but still be unsure whether you are approaching your project correctly, what you should be doing next, or how to turn that work into the grade you want.

Studying Law has made me extremely organized and methodical in how I approach academic work, and I bring that same structure to Art. I genuinely believe that students can make a significant improvement when they have clear guidance, good preparation and someone who takes the time to identify exactly where they need help.

Whether you are aiming for a H1, hoping to move up a grade, or simply feeling lost with the course, I want to give you the structure, individual attention and encouragement needed to make your goal feel achievable.

I also know how important every grade can feel when you are working towards the points for a particular college course. I will take your goals seriously and be genuinely invested in helping you achieve the strongest Leaving Certificate Art result you are capable of.

About the lesson

My Leaving Cert Art grinds are structured around one goal: identifying exactly where a student is losing marks and giving them a clear plan to improve their grade.

Before each lesson, I will ask the student what they are currently covering in school, where they feel least confident and what they want to focus on. I will then prepare the session specifically around those areas, so that every grind has a clear purpose and the student leaves knowing exactly what to work on next.

For the written exam, I will prepare comprehensive notes and structured sample essays topic-by-topic ahead of class. We will work through the material together so that the student understands it, knows what is important and gradually builds a bank of strong essays and notes to revise from before the exam. I will also help with museum and gallery preparation, including what to look for during a visit, what information to record and how to use it effectively in an exam answer.

For practical work, I will teach the core principles of sketching, life drawing, painting, composition and observational work, adapting lessons to the student’s current ability. I will demonstrate techniques, work through difficulties with them and give clear, practical feedback on how to improve their work.

Project preparation will be a major focus of my grinds. When the Leaving Cert brief is released, I will help the student break down their chosen prompt, generate ideas and develop a concept that is both original and realistic for their abilities. From there, we will create a clear project plan and work through research, experimentation, development, composition and the final piece. My aim is that the student always understands why they are making each decision and how their work is progressing towards a strong final submission.

I will also provide individual material to work on between sessions, such as essay notes, reference material, drawing exercises or project-development tasks, so there is continuity from one lesson to the next.

I achieved a H1 in Leaving Certificate Art and continue to practice art, particularly oil painting, alongside my studies at Trinity College Dublin and involvement with Trinity Arts Workshop. Having completed the Leaving Certificate in 2021, I understand the course from a student’s perspective and, importantly, how overwhelming Art can become when there is no clear plan or confusion in class.

My aim is to take that uncertainty away. Whether a student is struggling with drawing, falling behind on their project, unsure how to approach the written paper or simply wants to push towards a H1 and get their points up, I will break the course into manageable areas and give them a structured route towards the grade they are capable of achieving.

Lessons are typically 60–90 minutes and are designed primarily for Leaving Certificate Art students of all ability levels.
