About Grace

I'm Grace!

I am a Master's of Social Work student at USC studying to be a mental health therapist. I am also a 200-hour certified yoga teacher. What makes me unique is that I have a psychotherapy education and background that I integrate into my yoga classes!

I started practicing yoga when I was 12 years old as a complement to my competitive dance career. As my practice deepened I began to realize not only the physical benefits of the postures but also the immense benefits that manifested in my emotional and spiritual life. Yoga helped me feel confident, centered, and powerful in a way I never had before. I completed my Yoga Teacher Training at Yoga District in Washington, DC so I could help others feel the same way. I've been offering my practice to the U of M community ever since. About a year later I completed an 8 hour training on trauma informed yoga where I learned to serve populations surviving from and navigating deeply stressful life experiences. I have been offering this practice to my community for several months and have found it to be extremely meaningful.

I strive to create classes where everyone feels included, empowered, and inspired. I believe yoga is meant to be challenging for the body and mind but accessible to all. Advanced yogis and beginners alike are welcome to come move with me! You can expect creative flows, fun music, and a positive environment that will leave you feeling strong and energized. I am also pleased to offer classes to individuals who have experienced sexual assault, eating disorders, or other traumas where we deeply focus on reformulating a positive relationship with our bodies and cultivating self-compassion. I hope you'll join me on this journey!

Sharing the practice of yoga with others is an incredible journey of growth, patience, strenght, confidence, understanding, and connection for me. Creating a space where people can focus on turning indwards and bringing forth their best selves is such a meaningful process for me. I love not only offering a good workout and stretch for my students, but also a place for emotional work to be done. The tools I learn through yoga help me navigate life, and I love sharing those with others.

Yoga helped me feel confident, centered, and powerful in a way I never had before. I completed my Yoga Teacher Training at Yoga District in Washington, DC so I could help others feel the same way. Immediatey after I began working with groups at the University of Michigan such as fraternities, sororities, scholarship organizations, and clubs. After holding many of these private events, I decided to start teaching in a more traditional setting. I joined the staff at the university's rec centers in spring of 2018 and I have been absolutely loving my time there, teaching college students and young professionals of all different backgrounds. In fall of 2018, I began working with individuals within the university who have experienced  trauma of some sort, an incredibly meaningful practice for me as a teacher.

I have completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training, as well as an 8 hour Trauma Informed Yoga Training that allows me to teach to populations who have experienced sexual assault, eating disorders, or other forms of trauma.

I have worked with college students, student organizations such as fraternities and sororities, young professionals, and peope who have experienced trauma, eating disorders, and/or sexual assault.

I would advise a student to find a teacher they relate to on some level. Yoga teachers aren't gurus or gods, they're people with a love of sharing yoga. I believe the best way to share this practice and receive the benefits of yoga is to work with a teacher you trust, understand, and relate to in some way.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what they are looking to get out of their yoga practice, starting with balancing their physical and emotional needs. Is yoga there for you as a workout or a therapy session? Are you trying to energize or relax? Yoga is different for everyone, so defining your goals is important before talking to a potential teacher.
