About Priyanka

I have always been very passionate about mathematics and excelled at the subject, having taken my GCSE a year in advance and obtained an A*. I was always very interested in the importance of the applications of mathematics to the real world. Completing a Mathematics degree has broadened my interest and developed my understanding of the vastness of the subject. This is the main reason I took immense pleasure in studying this degree. Mathematics has improved my ability to work with numbers quickly and systematically, therefore I am very numerically minded. I have also worked with a range of software including Excel, Maple and R studio for modules such as Statistics, so I feel confident in using an online platform to teach other students. Having worked with students for well over 6 years, I have had to apply these skills thoroughly. During my time at Bright Young Things Tuition as a tutor, Assistant Director and Centre Director, I gained invaluable experience and insight into the tutoring world so I have plenty of experience tutoring mentees of all ages and backgrounds! I also have 4 years' experience in online tutoring - assisting underprivileged students around the U.K. with their GCSEs, as well as having completed a teaching internship - working closely with Mathematics and STEM teachers to help deliver lessons to KS3/4 students.

About the lesson

Being able to communicate well with students is of paramount importance. We would begin with more basic topics, as these form the basis of Maths, to help build the students' confidence and then transition to more challenging topics. Alongside this, I believe that practice is the key to becoming confident with mathematics. I will measure the students’ progress with the curriculum that we will work through and regular quizzes. Finally, once all material has been covered, practice on exam-style questions is prime. It is essential that students are aware of the layout of exams and understand the language used in worded problems. Generally, as a tutor I have learnt that all students are different and respond to various teaching methods. Therefore, I have learnt to be adaptable in the way that I teach students depending on their needs. Teaching students is a very rewarding job as you can see how they develop their knowledge and understanding from your teaching. I think it’s important that the student can also see how they have progressed over time to help with their confidence.

Priyanka has been amazing tutor for my daughter. She plans the subject around my daughter's weakness and is in regular contact with her through WhatsApp helping her overcome them. My daughter was struggling with maths but now is expected to get a minimum of 7 in her GCSE.
