About Ashley
In my work, I've had experience introducing and teaching about different species of wildlife to a variety of people from all different ages and backgrounds. Sometimes this included the basics of the life cycle and diet. Other times, we could dive into discussing recent studies and scientific efforts into an animal's capabilities. From this, I learned that everyone comes to the table with their own strengths and weaknesses in a subject area, and so long as there is a desire to learn and make things fun, the rest will come easily with a little collaboration and guidance. I've also been on the other end, receiving tutoring, and I know how important it is to feel like you are in a safe learning environment where questions are not only encouraged but celebrated to fuel confidence and further understanding. I hope that, knowing this, I may be a good match to help someone in their learning journey!

I like to approach any subject or concept by breaking things down in sizable chunks alongside visual tools to help facilitate a smooth learning experience. Additionally, I have found that finding ways to relate any new subject to something you already know or interests you makes it easier to understand and remember long term.
A typical lesson may start by creating a plan with a student to find out where they are in their learning, where they want to get to and how we will get there before making a new schedule for that lesson. This would include time for first explaining a subject, examples, questions, time to help show understanding of a concept and free time for the student to go back to any part they want to spend more time on so they feel confident with the material.
As a Zoology and History Undergraduate, I am capable of teaching specifics, such as evolution, animal behaviour, vertebrate/invertebrate biology, classics, and medieval history, at the university level. Aside from this, I am still happy teaching from late middle school to high school, introducing more general biological studies, such as life cycles, to first introductions to genetics and phylogenetic trees. Alongside this, I can also provide guidance in skill-building for new historians and help with citations and paper writing.
