About AJ

About Me
Hello! I am a Systems Architect and Senior Technology Leader with over 15 years of professional experience building enterprise software, mobile platforms, and high-scale cloud systems for Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, and public-sector infrastructure.

I am also a lifelong learner, currently earning my Master of Science in Computer Science, I combine deep industry experience with up-to-date academic insights. My background spans everything from hands-on software development in Python, C#, Java, Swift, and JavaScript to leading engineering teams and designing complex, real-time architectures.

Whether you are navigating your first programming class, tackling university-level Data Structures & Algorithms, or preparing to launch your career in tech, I am here to demystify complex concepts and help you build genuine confidence.

Why study with me?

Real-World Authority: I don't just teach theory—I write, design, and deploy software daily. You’ll learn clean coding practices, professional debugging, and architectural patterns used by industry professionals.

Academic Alignment: As an active graduate student, I know exactly what modern CS professors expect, how university rubrics work, and where students most frequently get stuck.

Patient, Student-Centered Support: I pride myself on creating an encouraging, low-pressure environment where questions are welcomed and mistakes are treated as valuable learning tools.

My goal is not just to help you pass your next assignment, but to help you think like an engineer. I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your academic and professional goals!

About My Teaching Method & Techniques

My approach combines academic rigor with 15+ years of real-world software engineering experience. I believe the best way to learn Computer Science is by bridging abstract theoretical concepts—like data structures, algorithm efficiency, and object-oriented design—with tangible, working software.

Rather than relying on dry lectures, I use an interactive, problem-solving method:

The "Why" Before the "How": Before diving into code, we break down *why* a problem exists and plan the architectural logic visually or through pseudocode.

Live Coding & Guided Refactoring: We write code together in real time. I encourage "failing fast" in a supportive environment, teaching you how to read error messages, use debuggers, and refactor messy code into clean, production-grade solutions.

Adaptable Pacing: Everyone learns differently. Whether you need a top-down visual explanation or a bottom-up code walkthrough, I pivot my explanations until the concept clicks.

A Typical Lesson Plan (60 Minutes)

1. Goal Setting & Check-in (5 mins): Review current assignments, identify specific pain points, or define the objective for the session (e.g., mastering recursion, building a REST API, or preparing for a midterm).
2. Concept Breakdown (15 mins): Whiteboard or map out the core theory behind the topic using real-world analogies and visual diagrams.
3. Interactive Guided Practice (30 mins): Work through hands-on coding exercises together. We start with simple examples and build up to edge cases and complex assignments.
4. Debugging & Code Review (5 mins): Analyze what went well, clean up the code, and discuss optimization (Big-O time/space complexity, clean code principles).
5. Wrap-up & Actionable Next Steps (5 mins): Summarize key takeaways and set a clear, manageable practice objective before our next session.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

15+ Years of Industry Experience: I am an active Systems Architect and Lead Developer. I don't just teach textbook theory—I teach how code is written, tested, and deployed in Fortune 500 companies and tech startups.

Current Graduate Student Insight: Because I am actively pursuing my Master of Science in Computer Science, I understand the current university curriculum, grading rubrics, and the exact friction points students face in modern coursework.

Debugging & Problem-Solving Focus: Most tutors teach syntax; I teach "how to think like a developer". Rubber Duck debugging, Learning how to isolate bugs, read documentation, and design robust logic is a superpower that serves you long after the lesson ends.

Who These Lessons Are For

University Undergraduate & Graduate Students: Struggling with Intro to CS, Data Structures & Algorithms, Object-Oriented Programming (Java, C#, Python, C++), Software Engineering, or Database Systems.

Bootcamp & Self-Taught Developers: Looking to fill in fundamental Computer Science knowledge gaps or transition into full-stack, mobile (iOS/Android), or cloud engineering.

High School / AP Computer Science Students: Aiming for top grades in AP CS A or AP CS Principles and seeking a strong foundation before college.

Career Switchers & Aspiring Engineers: Needing hands-on portfolio review, resume guidance, or preparation for technical interviews.
