About Happy

Hello! I am a fourth-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) student specializing in the Intermediate Phase Mathematics education.

Over the course of my university studies and teacher training, I have seen firsthand how easily learners fall behind when foundational concepts—like fraction operations, long division, or integers—are rushed through in crowded classrooms. Once a student misses a building block, math starts feeling confusing and frustrating and this is precisely what I am here to address.
My teaching approach is entirely diagnostic and patient. I don't just help with tonight's homework; I find where the where the prerequisite gaps are, work with the student, patiently, to rebuild them from the roots up, and rebuild their confidence.

Every session is built around directly rebuilding prerequisite gaps through clear conceptual explanations and a lot of guided problem-solving.
The first couple of sessions will be aimed at getting to know the student and building rapport. I discern the student's preferred learning style and tailor future lessons towards it. These sessions will also include Diagnostic assessments wherein we review the student's current problem areas and the prerequisite gaps that are hinder progress or fluency. I use the word "fluency" deliberately here because I am a proponent of teaching Mathematics as a language from the start.
After we have identified the problem areas I will begin with instruction on the conceptual foundations of each content area (i.e. explaining what fractions are, explaining what a ratio is etc...). These lessons will be very structured and will feature progressively more complex problem sets to gauge the student's improvement.
Takeaway Practice: Every student receives a custom 2-page practice worksheet and a complete answer key after the lesson to reinforce what we covered.
