About Iris

I am a music scholar at Wycombe Abbey School. I used to learn the violin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama every Saturday, until I moved to boarding school. I was a valued member of the National Children’s Orchestra from age 10-14 (an amazing organisation which really helped develop my passion and understanding of music). I am now in my second year of the National Youth Orchestra, working alongside extremely talented musicians aged 14-19, being one of the two violinists who got in from the National Children’s Orchestra. I have completed all the ABRSM grades, and achieved a distinction in my diploma exam in year 8 (age 13). I have had experience teaching friend's younger siblings in preparation for upcoming exams.

About the lesson

I would love to be able to teach young beginners to solidify their technique with the bow hand, and develop their left hand techniques such as vibrato. I would also be of great help to those preparing for exams, whether they would be in person or recorded (I have had a lot of experience on recording previously). I can expand the student's understanding of the classical world by offering suitable repertoire to look at for fun alongside exam pieces. I have also had a lot of experience with auditions for orchestras, music schools, and music scholarships, and would be able to give specific pointers the examiners are looking for. In the lesson, I am keen to develop skills and general musicality, meaning regular practice is vital for improvement. Short but detailed periods of practice throughout the week have been proven most successful. I am extremely passionate about music, and hope to be an inspiration to others.
