About Wilfred
My name’s Wilfred and I’m a musician from Bath and London who studies History at Newcastle Uni. I’ve been doing music since the age of 6. I started Piano at age 6, drums at 8 and by 15, I was beyond grade 8 standard for both of them. Now, I play more than ever but want to spread my knowledge to others and perform in Newcastle.

My teaching method is first finding out what level the student is, then deciding what they need to work on to improve. For example if they’re just starting drums, I would first teach them how to hold the sticks properly and how to hit each drum, by demonstrating slowly l and explaining it as simply as possible, then letting them try. My teaching method cannot be done as effectively with social distancing, as with drums sometimes you need to position the students hands in the right way to help them improve. Another thing to note is that I can teach grades as I did them myself but I would argue that they’re not necessary to improve, so if the student wants to save money by not doing grades, that’s completely fine - most of the best drums of all time never did them and frankly, all you need is an attitude and dedication. A teacher just speeds up the learning process.
