About Athena
I am a mother of four who attended public schools and public universities, and I believe deeply in accessible, high-quality learning for every child. I am also neurodivergent, which helps me understand and support students who learn in different ways.
I hold a master’s degree in Literary History from Ohio University and am certified to teach English Language Arts in grades 7–12. With over 15 years of experience teaching writing both in-person and online, I’ve worked with middle school, high school, college, and adult learners.
My approach is student-centered, structured, and compassionate. I use clear instruction, guided practice, and personalized feedback to help students build confidence, strengthen their writing and reading skills, and feel supported every step of the way.

I begin by getting to know each student’s learning style. From there, I use scaffolded instruction, modeling, guided practice, and targeted feedback to help students build skills step-by-step. I’ve taught writing at the college level for over a decade, supporting students through TRIO programs and one-on-one tutoring. My approach is gentle, encouraging, and confidence-building, especially for students with anxiety or learning differences who feel overwhelmed or discouraged. I create a supportive environment where students feel safe to take risks.
