About Emily

My goal is to engage students in middle school and high school with their English classes: guiding them with time management and deadlines, while also helping them find their voice as a writer. I have worked to help students in all age groups grow as readers and writers in their English classes! I also have experience tutoring Spanish, Algebra, and Geometry at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Throughout my experience, I've loved learning more about how different students learn and approach their school work. I believe the most important part of this experience is feeling comfortable and willing to make mistakes and grow! I want students to feel supported and motivated during tutoring, even when the work may seem challenging. My goal is to create a professional yet nurturing environment for each student's learning and creativity.

About the lesson

I understand that every student learns differently, so I look to build a lesson plan around each student's individual needs in the classroom-- whether that be tackling challenging readings, writing an academic essay, or working on executive functioning skills to get work done on time. I break down readings into multiple parts and teach strategies that help reading speed, clarity, and comprehension. I also help students master the foundations of creating a strong essay while building their skills as a writer. I am very passionate about English and love sharing that passion with all students, no matter where they are in their writing journey!
