About Shivraj
I am currently a working professional with a background in Mathematics and Physics, and continued passion for teaching. I have an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Durham University, where I was also a tutor as part of the Durham Student Community Action group. I worked with students at all levels, including GCSE, A-Level and undergraduates. I completed my Masters in Financial Engineering from Columbia University in New York, where I was a Physics teaching assistant and tutor within the engineering department. I also completed my Masters in Theoretical Physics from Imperial College London. As a practicing quantitative consultant, I have experience working with clients from non-quantitative backgrounds and breaking down complex concepts into bite sized pieces. I believe effective communication is key to learning, and I treat my students with the same degree of professionalism I treat my clients.

My lessons are typically structured as follows:
- 5-10 mins discussion regarding current topics being covered at school, identifying conceptual difficulties and reviewing example problems causing difficulties (e.g. from homework). The purpose is for me to gain an understanding of my students requirements so I can cater the remainder of the session as closely as possible to their needs.
-20-25 mins lesson delving into the current topic by providing background, explanations and worked examples. The purpose is to provide clarification on areas causing conceptual difficulties and providing practical examples to demonstrate problem solving techniques.
- 20-25 mins problem set session. As practice makes perfect, the remainder of the session is focused on providing the student with problem sets from the topic at hand and working through these together. This provides an opportunity for the student to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and provides an opportunity to address further conceptual difficulties that may arise. When stuck, I often get my students to walk me through their thought process as talking through the problem helps provide individual clarity and provides me with an opportunity to fill in any further gaps in conceptual understanding.
I strive to continually re-assess my own teaching methodology and adapt my explanations and lessons to the learning style of my students. I keep records of each students progress and difficulties to ensure they on track to achieve their potential.
