About Charlie

My name is Charlie and have an array of interests in practical subject areas, especially woodworking and including having a degree in Sport Sciences. I’m known as the street London girl but with a nerdy edge for life. I am friendly, laid back and like to have a laugh with students. I struggled at school to maintain focus and looking back probably didn’t have the correct support back then. This led me to move into the education sector. I co-taught Woodwork, DT and Forest Schools at a secondary school in West London where I worked for 8 years and I now live in the West Midlands. I’m a passionate individual dedicated to improving students educational experience while improving woodworking practices, offering several years experience in SEN education and working with children at Secondary level in Woodwork and Design Technology, as well as creating my own bespoke products in my spare time.

I may have a dodgy right foot when kicking a ball but I enjoy watching a lot of sports including football, rugby, F1 and ice hockey to name a few and I used to play basketball competitively. In my spare time I enjoy going for walks, visiting a good coffee shop, exploring national trusts and being next to any body of water. Other subjects which pique my interest are history, psychology, philosophy, nature and the science behind how things work.

About the lesson

Passionate and patient tutor with a specialist area teaching Special Educational Needs in Secondary environments. My sessions are holistic and tailored to each students required objectives and needs. Lessons are based around joining and framing techniques as well as associated vocational study units. Theory based sessions are quite visual yet informative to allow the student to see and understand various wood species, grains, textures, processes, configurations, components and methods.

Joints taught are butt, half laps, cross laps, mitre, mortise and tenon, dowel, finger, dovetail.

Vocational studies may include (dependant on assignment requirements) producing a product based on a client brief, business requirements of brief, making a bespoke product from given brief, organisational techniques, making a framing joint and health and safety to name a few.
