About Aine

I love making History feel alive, engaging, and understandable — not just a list of dates and facts. I’m really good at helping students see the story behind events, which makes everything easier to remember and much more enjoyable to learn.

Most importantly, I genuinely care about helping students grow. I celebrate their progress, build their confidence, and create a positive learning space where they can think deeply, express themselves clearly, and feel proud of what they achieve.

GCSE & A‑Level History – Lesson Outline
1. Warm‑Up & Quick Review (5–10 mins)

- A short recap of what we covered last time.
- A few warm‑up questions to get the student thinking historically again.

2. Introducing the Topic (10–15 mins)
I break everything down into clear, manageable points so students understand the story and the significance behind it.

3. Source/Interpretation Skills (10–20 mins)
We look at how historians work:

How to analyse sources
How to spot bias, purpose, reliability
How to compare interpretations
How to decide what is useful and why

I guide students through techniques that are easy to remember and apply.

4. Building Strong Explanations (10–20 mins)
This part focuses on helping students think like a historian:

- Linking cause and consequence
- Understanding change and continuity
- Explaining significance
- Comparing factors
- Making clear, well‑reasoned arguments

I model examples and help the student practise forming high‑quality answers.

5. Exam Practice – Question Breakdown (10–20 mins)
We work on real exam‑style questions such as:
GCSE:

“How useful is this source?”
“Explain two consequences…”
“Write an account of…”
Longer thematic or depth‑study essays

A‑Level:

25‑ or 30‑mark essays
- Source‑based questions
- Interpretation questions
- Structured thematic essays

We break questions down together so students understand exactly what examiners want.

6. Independent Attempt (5–15 mins)
The student tries a short question, essay paragraph, or source task on their own. This helps them build confidence and independence while I support when needed.

7. Feedback, Reflection & Next Steps (5–10 mins)
- Friendly, constructive feedback
- Identify strengths and small areas to improve
- Plan what we’ll focus on next lesson
- Optional tips for revision or note‑making

Extra Teaching Methods I Use:
- Timelines to make events clearer
- Mind maps for themes and big debates
- Comparison charts for causes/factors
- Memory techniques for dates, events, and key names
- Exam‑board‑specific guidance (AQA, OCR, Edexcel)
