About Calvin
Hi! I'm Calvin and I did my undergraduate at UC Davis in math and computer science and pursued a PhD in TCS (Theoretical Computer Science) at USC. I have also published 3 papers, with one of them getting into SODA, a leading TCS conference.
In my time at USC, I worked as a TA (teaching assistant) for 3 semesters on CSCI 270. I lead 2-hour lectures once a week on topics in algorithms, including the creation of problem sets and lesson plans. It also involved holding office hours, where dozens of students would show up weekly for essentially customized private tutoring lessons!
According to the TA reviews, the students loved me and especially my ability to break down complex topics into easy-to-understand intuitive examples. With all this together, I can say I have a lot of experience privately teaching a wide variety of students on very complex topics.
So here I am! My goal is just to help people understand math and computer science at a deeper level while also helping to spread my passion for these beautiful subjects.

My typical plan for a student is:
1. Identify the specific part of a subject they would like to understand better and what type of learner they are, whether they are more of an intuitive learner or a rote learner.
2. Give custom-made lectures and problem sets catered to developing the student's level and learning style.
3. Review student's solutions to problem sets, and repeat from step 2 until it's evident that the student fully understands the subject.
As for subjects, I can teach:
1. Any high school math subject.
2. Any of the following undergraduate math topics: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Logic, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Abstract Algebra (anything up to Galois theory), Combinatorics.
3. Any of the following computer science topics: Introductory C/C++/Python/Java classes, Object-Oriented programming, Algorithms, Logic, Foundations of Computer Science (FSMs, languages, Turing machines, etc.), Cryptography, Approximation Algorithms, Randomized Algorithms.
