About Nolan
I’m a university philosophy student offering tutoring in philosophy and ethics for high school students and introductory university courses. My approach focuses on making difficult philosophical ideas easier to understand through clear explanations, discussion, and relatable real-world examples. I’m also very interested in sports and music, and I play guitar, so I enjoy connecting philosophical ideas to everyday interests like these whenever it helps make an abstract concept easier to understand.
A typical lesson will be based around what you are currently studying or struggling with. We can review readings and lecture material, break down key concepts and philosophers, work through arguments together, or prepare for upcoming tests and assignments. I also help students understand how to identify premises and conclusions, compare philosophical positions, develop their own arguments, and approach philosophical writing.
What sets me apart is that I’m currently studying philosophy at the university level, so I understand what it is like to encounter complicated readings and abstract concepts as a student. Rather than simply giving you definitions to memorize, my goal is to help you understand why an argument works, how different ideas connect, and how to explain them confidently in your own words. I also try to adapt examples to each student’s interests, whether that means sports, music, current events, or everyday situations, to make philosophy feel less abstract and more relevant.
My lessons are best suited for high school philosophy students, students taking introductory university philosophy or ethics courses, and anyone who wants extra help understanding philosophical concepts, readings, arguments, or course material.
