About Fen

My name is Fen, and I was once in your shoes. I completed my GCSE English and English Literature in 2020 and A-Level English Literature in 2022, and I am glad to say that I achieved A*s in those subjects at both levels. Now in 2024 I am here to impart my knowledge, tips and tricks onto YOU, to help YOU achieve and succeed!

What are my main qualities? I'm friendly, encouraging, an excellent and patient listener and communicator, reliable, honest, and passionate about helping people grow and succeed. I am happy to help!

But as well as being your tutor, at the end of the day I am also just a normal guy. I like to play football, watch films, go to art galleries, have a laugh with my mates, call my mum, read poems and books, and draw.

What you see is what you get. So let's get started and let me help you succeed!

About the lesson

To students at GCSE or A-Level reading this, I have one simple thing to say to you: I WAS ONCE IN YOUR SHOES. I have been through GCSE and A-Level English and now I want to impart my knowledge and teaching onto you to HELP YOU SUCCEED.

I thrive on listening, talking, communicating and helping people. I am the eldest of three siblings and I have helped each of them with their GCSE English.

I want create both a RELAXED BUT FOCUSED ENVIRONMENT. I want you to feel at ease, comfortable and confident.

And most importantly, I know what I'm doing. In 2023 I was successfully accepted as an Elevate Eduction presenter to present to secondary school students about effective study habits and exam preparation.

My lessons are focused around YOU. Ultimately YOU shape the lessons and I am there to facilitate YOUR academic needs. Simply tell me the issue you're having with your subject- be it a past paper question you wanna plan, a chapter you're not sure about, a poem you can't understand the meaning of- I am here to help you SOLVE it.

Each lesson I offer lasts 1 HOUR to give us enough TIME TO FOCUS on getting to grips with the issue you're having, DEMONSTRATE how you SOLVE that issue and give you SOLUTIONS to use outside of the lesson to help you ACHIEVE and SUCCEED.

We'll begin the lesson by BREAKING THE ICE, having a quick and informal chat, keeping things light, then focusing on where you are at with your GCSE English progression and what YOU want to focus on in the lesson.

There are five words to describe my teaching style: PATIENCE, DEMONSTRATION, CONTEXTUALISATION, APPLICATION and REFLECTION.

1. PATIENCE- firstly I will listen to YOU and listen to YOUR NEEDS. i will get you to GRADE your confidence level with the particular topic you've identified struggling with on a scale of 1-5.

2. DEMONSTRATION- then I will take what you've told me and DEMONSTRATE the best way to handle the task at hand- WHAT you should be doing and HOW you should be doing it.

3. CONTEXTUALISATION- then I will summarise what I have demonstrated to you and apply it to the MARK-SCHEME to not only show you the WHAT and HOW but the WHY. In my book, if you can understand WHY you should be doing something it sticks in your mind more.

4. APPLICATION- I will ask you to APPLY what I've demonstrated to your own answers.

5. REFLECTION- I will then ask you to REFLECT upon what you have learned and what you have tried by re-evaluating your confidence grade from the start of the lesson. You will write down one thing you found useful from the lesson and one thing you will continue to use outside of the lesson.
