About Carolyn

I have always loved creative writing and poetry and remain committed to growing as both a writer and mentor. I continue my education through university-level poetry courses, online learning, and independent study.

Currently, I am studying Modern & Contemporary American Poetry through the University of Pennsylvania. As I continue to grow as a student, I bring new knowledge and perspectives into my work as a creative writer and poetry mentor.

I believe learning is a lifelong journey. By continuing to develop my own skills, I strive to provide thoughtful guidance and meaningful learning experiences for every student.

About the lesson

Poetry is more than learning forms and techniques—it's discovering your own voice. I teach creative writing, poetry revision, and prose-to-poetry transformation, helping beginning and aspiring poets strengthen their imagery, structure, and confidence through revision and reflection.

Rather than focusing only on poetic forms and rules, I teach the art of revision—helping you recognize the strengths in your work while refining imagery, structure, pacing, word choice, and emotional impact. Revision is one of the most valuable tools a poet can develop, and together we'll learn how thoughtful revision can transform a good poem into a stronger one while remaining true to your vision.

Lessons are tailored to your individual goals and experience level. Whether you're writing your very first poem, revising an existing piece, exploring narrative or reflective poetry, or learning how to read and analyze poetry more deeply, we'll work together at a pace that is comfortable for you. My goal is not to tell you what to write, but to help you discover the poem that already exists within your own words.
