About Dr Noah Gabriel
Originally from Vancouver, I lecture at University of Winchester on topics including Ethics, Epistemology, media criticism, political philosophy, Feminism and philosophy of science. I also teach A level philosophy at Sutton Grammar School.
My PhD is from the University of Sussex.
I've taught for over a decade in the American and British university systems, at 6 different institutions, and also designed learning programmes for Universities, non-profits, and start-ups.
I have taught in universities for over 10 yrs and run a learning nonprofit called College of Modern Anxiety. I currently lecture at University of Winchester, and I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Lessons are 1-2 hrs and can be done remotely or at any location in London.
Lately, I've been on a mission to learn street dance, despite lacking any sense of rhythm or the ability to tell left from right. Learning something for which I have little aptitude has taught me a lot about the learning needs of beginners!

I'm passionate about empowering learners!
I make complex, abstract philosophical ideas come alive by using rich, concrete examples to help you understand the ideas' relevance to your own lives, cares and concerns.
I start by discussing your learning goals and putting together a plan that we will work on together to ensure you accomplish them.
I then plan your lessons to suit your needs, using discussion, visuals, and experiences to support your learning. I design my lessons with special educational needs in front of mind.
I know the American and British university systems inside and out, so I can help you navigate them, get the most out of your university experience, and get top grades.
Here are some testimonials from former students:
"Noah has a real knack for simplifying complex concepts without being glib or reductive."
"Noah's teaching support was consistently excellent. He was always supportive and seemed to have a genuine interest in your queries, and to have someone as dedicated to helping really made all the difference when the material and subject matter could be overwhelming at times."
"Noah's teaching is engaging and thorough. As a first year student grappling with Existentialism, it was essential to have someone who understood the texts help break them down."

Perfect! Noah took on the challenge of working with my 13 year old son to expand his exposure to different philosophical schools of thought and help develop his critical thinking skills. He absolutely understood my brief for the job and clearly made a great effort at preparing for the session. His thoughtful, empathetic, authentic, and flexible approach worked very well and I would highly recommend him as a tutor.

Noah was a brilliant tutor in April 2024, as he helped me navigate some significant challenges I was facing with my dissertation.
He offered a range of experimental solutions for deconstructing critical analysis, which reshaped the way I engaged with the conceptual frameworks I was exploring at the time.
His support continues to inform my approach to writing and thinking— I would definitely hire him again!Noah is passionate about philosophy and teaching. He’s approachable, friendly, and yet thinks with a rigour that is infectious! You will not regret learning with Noah (though you’re dinner table conversation may become annoyingly profound)!
Noah makes complex philosophical ideas easy to understand and engaging for students at any level. He explains important concepts, breaks down jargon, and tackles tricky ideas in a way that's creative and clear. He got me to start caring about philosophy.
Noah is enthusiastic about sharing philosophy and applying philosophical concepts to everyday life and decisions. He is a calm and adaptive teacher who clearly enjoys helping people learn
