About Maria

I am half English half Russian, having grown up speaking both at home. I then moved to France when I was 5 and completed my primary schooling there in a fully French-speaking school, where I excelled and was top of my class for 8 years consecutively - demonstrating my knack for languages and general academic excellence. I then moved back to the UK and started learning Spanish when I was 12 - it was so similar to French that I picked it up super fast and had a knack for the pronunciation. I love the Spanish culture and have visited at least once a year for the last decade, and have been immersed in the language for a month at a time some lucky summers.

My successful exam streak was continued upon moving back to the UK where I got an academic scholarship for a top UK private school (Alleyn's) where I received a grade 9 (A**) in 13 GCSEs (exams we do at 16), and received AAAA* in my A-levels (exams we do at 18). I studied Spanish all throughout school and progressed to a very high level, and would be confident teaching it up to GCSE level in preparation for reading, writing, oral and listening exams.

I then went to a top Russell Group University (St Andrews) and completed my BSc in Environmental Sciences with honors.

I moved to the Gold Coast from London 4 months ago, and am looking to pass on my language and exam skills to my students.

I have an open driver’s license, have my own car, and have a Blue Card working with children check, and have first aid courses and experience.

About the lesson

I offer in-person lessons on the Gold Coast, or virtual video call lessons. Lessons can be 1 to 2 hours in length, the first one being a free 30-minute consultation to determine the level of pre-existing language skills of my pupil, so I can formulate a plan for the period of learning we have in mind, or working towards specific goals or tests. I can help with preparation for AQF Certificates and Senior Secondary Certificate of Education. I work with any age group! My availability is very flexible and I can mold seamlessly into your schedule.
