About Amelia
My name is Amelia, I'm 20, and I am originally from Norwich but am currently in my Second Year of my degree in English at the University of York.
I've had a passion for English as a subject and as an art form for years- for so long, in fact, that I can't remember a time before I loved it! I hope to pass on to my students not only the tools that they require to shine in their exams, but also to impart a love for English and reading in general :)
**I also want to emphasise that I truly understand every child has different needs and my tutoring will always revolve around that ethos.**

FOR GCSE AND A LEVEL STUDENTS:
We will focus on the reading materials that will be on the exams, and will explore the texts with both close textual analysis and a view of the broader themes at play. We will focus, too, on the revision of literary techniques, as well as the historical contexts of the creation.
Exam technique will also be essential here, and as much as I will help cultivate an understanding for technique, I will also push for my students to engage with the texts themselves and encourage their personal interpretations.
Lessons will be 2 hours long, with the first hour focusing on textual analysis/context, and the second hour focusing on essay planning/exam technique.
**Of course, the exact details will be dependent on which texts my student will be studying.**
FOR YOUNGER READING LEVELS:
If my student is in Primary School and working towards SATs testing at the end of Key Stage 2, we will focus on SPAG (spelling, punctuation, and grammar) and reading comprehension. This will be done through worksheets and practical application of techniques. We will start each lesson with a short spelling and grammar test.
To improve reading comprehension and vocabulary, we will read (in part) an accessible but challenging fiction book (by authors such as Michael Morpurgo, R.J Palacio, C.S Lewis, Phillip Pullman). These reading sessions will be tailored to the individual child and their reading ability- I want to push my students in their reading so they can reach their full potential and grow their enthusiasm for the subject, as well as excel in their exams! This is a fun and engaging way to practise vocabulary, sentence structures, andnew punctuation and will hopefully encourage my students to read beyond the lessons! :)
For KS2 students, I will do either a 1 or 2 hour lesson (depending on preference/compatibility with student's learning pattern). The first hour will always focus on SPAG, the second on reading comprehension. If the one hour lesson is chosen, we will alternate between SPAG and reading.
