About Kahlia
Hi, I'm Kahlia! I'm currently studying BSc Psychology at the University of Birmingham and have a genuine passion for helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals.
I believe every student learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to suit each individual's strengths, challenges and learning style. My aim is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to develop the confidence, study skills and independent learning habits that will benefit them long after our lessons.
I achieved an A in A-level English Language, including full marks (80/80) in my Non-Exam Assessment (coursework), and I enjoy helping students strengthen their reading, writing and analytical skills. As a Psychology student, I also incorporate evidence-based learning techniques such as active recall, retrieval practice and spaced repetition to help students retain information effectively and prepare confidently for exams.
I provide a supportive, patient and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Whether you're preparing for SATs, GCSEs, A-level English Language, or simply looking to improve your English skills, I'll work with you to create lessons that are engaging, structured and focused on your personal goals.

My teaching approach focuses on building confidence, developing strong subject knowledge, and helping students become independent learners rather than simply memorising content.
Lessons are typically 1 HOUR long and are tailored to each student's goals, ability, and exam board (such as AQA, Edexcel, OCR, etc.). I break topics down into manageable sections before gradually increasing the level of challenge as students gain confidence.
I prioritise UNDERSTANDING FIRST, THEN RETENTION. I use active recall techniques at the beginning of each lesson to revisit previous topics, helping students strengthen their long-term memory and identify any gaps in knowledge. Throughout lessons, I encourage discussion, questioning, and regular knowledge checks to ensure students truly understand the material.
Depending on the student's needs, lessons may include:
* Structured teaching using clear explanations and visual presentations.
* Guided practice and worked examples.
* Exam technique and mark scheme analysis.
* Regular past paper questions and timed exam practice.
* Revision planning and evidence-based study strategies to improve long-term retention.
* Constructive feedback with clear targets for improvement.
My lessons are suitable for primary, KS3, GCSE, A-level English Language students and learners studying English as an additional language (ESL/EAL). I aim to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and developing the skills needed to succeed both in exams and beyond.
