About Keyla

I'm a rising junior in college studying biochemistry while also having a focus on the humanities. I have been a student advisor and served as a mentor to first-year college students for 2 years. I strive to be a patient, encouraging, and adaptable tutor who is passionate about helping students build confidence in their learning. I understand that every student learns differently, so I focus on meeting students where they are academically and creating lessons that fit their individual needs and learning styles.

My approach as a tutor is centered around creating an encouraging, interactive, and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and growing at their own pace. I understand that every student learns differently and may be at a different academic level, so I focus on meeting students where they are and adapting lessons to fit their individual needs and learning styles.

Teaching Method and Techniques:
I use interactive lessons that keep students actively engaged rather than simply listening to explanations. I believe students learn best when they participate in the learning process, so I encourage discussion, problem-solving, and asking questions throughout sessions.

I also incorporate active recall methods, such as practice questions, reviewing concepts from memory, and having students explain ideas back to me. These techniques help strengthen understanding and improve long-term retention of material.

During tutoring sessions, I use encouragement and affirmations to help students build confidence in their abilities. I know that many students can feel overwhelmed or discouraged when learning difficult material, so I strive to create a positive environment where mistakes are viewed as part of the learning process.

A Typical Lesson Plan:
A typical lesson begins with reviewing previous material and identifying any areas of confusion. From there, I introduce or review concepts through interactive explanations and guided examples. Students then practice applying what they learned through active recall exercises, practice problems, or discussion-based activities. I end sessions with a recap of key concepts and personalized suggestions for continued improvement.

What sets me apart is my patience, adaptability, and supportive teaching style. I recognize that students learn at different speeds and come into tutoring with different strengths and challenges. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all method, I tailor sessions to each student’s needs and focus on helping them build both understanding and confidence.
I also prioritize creating a comfortable learning atmosphere where students feel encouraged to participate, make mistakes, and ask questions without fear of judgment.
