About Brandon

Hi! I’m an A Level graduate, still waiting upon results, seeking a part time tutoring job over the summer. As a Malaysian, I have had the opportunity to study overseas for A levels in the UK and can provide assistance to those seeking to apply to UK sixth-form colleges. I’m passionate in all things Biology — specifically Human Biology. Being once a student who wasn’t academically talented, I understand the difficulty when it comes to learning.

I am also an incoming medical student at the University of Birmingham for 2022 entry, and have extensive expertise in helping international students get into UK Medical schools. A selective quota of 10-30 students have been imposed on international students by UK medical schools. Having gone through a historically competitive admissions cycle, I can aid students with the UCAS personal statement, UCAT and BMAT exams and interviews. Achieving straight A*s across iGCSE and A level has made my approach to teaching methodical.

About the lesson

- As a tutor, I place emphasis on thoroughly understanding the theoretical aspects of the topic and tend to probe my students to do further reading. When attempting a question, I would like to engage them and be aware of the thought process used to derive the answer. Based on the exam board, we will go through past papers whilst noting down together the common mark scheme points.
If the student is struggling, I aim to dedicate a substantial proportion of lesson time correcting this and getting the basics correct.
As a keen writer, I place an emphasis on articulation of answers too and will also try to improve my student’s manner of answering over the course of our lessons, if proven weak in this.

- Typical length: 1 to 2 hours (Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics are subjects I am more comfortable with)

Qualifications: (I)GCSE - 11A* including Additional Mathematics, English Lang and Lit and triple sciences.
A Levels (Bio, Chem, Math, Physics) - 4A* achieved
University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT 2021): 3050 Band 1, 97-98th percentile

Has experience mentoring students within schools and has tutored through volunteering via online initiatives teaching mathematics.

Target students: GCSE or AS Level students. Students seeking to apply for medicine (in the UK, Ireland or Malaysia) or other health sciences courses.
