About Clara
I have been a professional actor for 30 years plus. From working with companies such as the National Theatre to touring around the country bringing work to village halls in rural England. I've worked on new writing which I particularly enjoy, developing new scripts with young writers watching a piece grow from an idea to being performed on a professional stage. My theatre credits include RSC, National Theatre, New York Theatre Festival, Oxford Stage Company, Southwark Playhouse, Hackney Empire, Bury St Edmund's Theatre Royal, The Bush, The Gate, Glasgow Citizens, The Tron Theatre, The Red room, Riverside Studios, Coronet Theatre. Most recently David Farr's play A Dead Body in Taos for Fuel Theatre TV credits include: Van Der Valk, Sitting in Limbo, Breeders, Come Home, Our Girl, Motherland, Liar 2, Wolfblood, EastEnders, Holby City, Casualty, The Five, Criminal Justice 2. I am a founder member of Immediate Theatre company, now in its 25th year. For them I have worked as an actor, director and acting coach. I am currently associate director of Eala Theatre company. In the autumn I will be directing our new play " Next Door" In 2021/22 I directed our hugely successful play "Black Girls Love Jane Austen Too" In 2021/22 I was an invited mentor for a New Direction on the meet a mentor programme. I have worked with creative partnerships delivering drama workshops in schools.

I've worked as an acting mentor, teacher, acting coach and director for over 20 years. I coach students for drama school and NYT entry. I've worked with several young people in developing their scripts. I have coached young people and adults in confidence building for speeches, presentations and interviews. One size doesn't fit all so my approach is individual and holistic. We'll have a 30-minute free session where we can devise a plan specific to your needs as a performer, professional in need of a confidence boost or a best man/woman needing direction in delivering a wedding speech. We'll work on script analysis, be it your own or a chosen piece. Breathing and relaxation techniques. Presentation skills. Our sessions will aim to fully ground you in your performance enhancing your experience and enjoyment be on stage, in an audition or in the boardroom.

Perfect! Clara is such a delight to work with! I’m new to acting and within just 5 lessons, I feel that I've gained so much progress and confidence after leaving each class. These classes have not only helped me for script reads but have also helped me be more grounded in my voice and self in general as I show up for everyday things. She’s guided me through 2 auditions so far but I’m looking forward to being a regular student of hers ️

Excellent communicator and a passion for her craft. I can’t recommend Clara highly enough for knowledge, patience and commitment. I have known her for many years and she is always empathetic, professional and approachable in her teaching.
I highly recommend Clara to anyone looking for audition preparation or acting tutoring of any sort. Not only is she a wonderful actor and theatre director with a rich and varied career, she is an empowering, kind and insightful teacher. She is warm, reliable, creative, highly practical, great fun, and a wonderful listener. I’ve known Clara as an actor, theatre-maker and workshop leader for 15 years. Having sessions with her will excite, inspire and embolden you. Under her guidance you will grow your skills, knowledge, range and confidence - and all whilst having a great time.
I am a casting director and Clara has assisted me for many years in taking my studio auditions. She has a wonderful rapport with all actors that attend our sessions by putting them naturally at ease, supporting them in the casting space by talking them through the role and enabling them to deliver the requested directions with confidence.
Anna Stark director of Stark Casting
www.starkcasting.comI have known Clara for almost 30 years as an actress, teacher and director.
Clara has wonderful knowledge and experience as an actress and the empathy and skills to share her skills and guide others.
At Immediate Theatre I have seen her work along side very inexperienced young performers giving them the confidence and ability to shine.
She has also worked for us as an acting coach supporting aspiring actors to hone their skills, develop character and prepare for performances and auditions.
More recently her great work as a director has given her an understanding of what the industry is looking for.
Jo Carter, Artistic Director, Immediate Theatre
I have worked with Clara Onyemare since 2020. She has mentored a number of upcoming actors and writers (underrepresented young Londoners 18-30) across several programmes I’ve run whilst senior programme manager at London based Youth Charity A New Direction and on my own mentoring programme Meet a Mentor which I founded in 2016 and has given a lot of impactful, skilled and strategic support.
The role of the mentor is to act as a critical friend to their mentees to neither be too prescriptive nor afraid of being honest when necessary and always prepared to give frank feedback to their mentees.
Clara is a natural mentor & teacher. She is insightful and generous with her time and the energy she puts in to the feedback and support she gives.
Over the time I’ve worked with Clara she has coached her mentees, supported them through a range of phases including: preparing for auditions, choosing self tapes, preparing for performances as well as deciding which aspects of drama or performance route they should focus on. She is always sharing her tips, tricks, networks, experience and passion for her work. She even suggested one mentee turn her poem into a one woman play and then give support with writing and directing her debut play. Additionally she has recommended courses, books, plays and other relevant materials. She always helps boost confidence, and for one mentee their connection was described by her mentee as “ life changing”.
I can’t recommend Clara highly enough it’s always a joy to work with her. Fran Plowright, Founder Meet a Mentor and Senior Programme ManagerI highly recommend Clara as a trustworthy, inspirational and engaging tutor and coach. I hired Clara to run a workshop with actors in Dublin supported by The Arts council of Ireland, where a piece of work was being developed. Clara knows how to get the best out of actors in any given space. I feel her experience as an actor herself with a large body of work behind her really translates into the rehearsal room and workshop scenario. She has also coached me one on one for self tapes and in person auditions. I look forward to working with her in the future.
Clara has helped me prepare for the role of my life and I would not have been able to stand for one hour on my own for several weeks without her coaching. Clara understands actors and how to bring out our emotions without being afraid of taking risks. Her methodology will blend with your energy and together we were able to create the most endearing and frankly interesting character you could ever imagine. I got so many compliments on my performance because of the choices we decided to make together. As an actor to be challenged and able to search within yourself through a guided and safe space is not something you'll find anywhere with anyone. If you're looking to take your acting skills to the next level and you're serious about the art, then Clara is the one for you.
