About Benjamin
Hi, I’m Ben, a dedicated maths tutor with a track record for academic success, achieving 7 grade 9s at GCSE, 3 A*s at A-Level in Maths, Physics, and Product Design, and an A in AS-Level Further Maths, placing me in the top 2% of students in the UK. I specialise in helping GCSE students tackle questions with confidence by focusing on understanding the material, breaking down problems step by step, and developing key critical thinking skills. My sessions are structured and clear, giving you the tools to approach exams methodically and effectively.

My Approach to Tutoring and Teaching Methodology In my lessons, I focus on helping students fully understand the required material and develop critical problem-solving skills. My goal is for them to be able to derive the necessary mathematical solutions on their own, rather than simply relying on memorised theorems and proofs. Here’s how I typically structure a lesson: 1. Understanding the question – I start by explaining what questions within the topic might look like in an exam, and then explain what we need to do to solve them. 2. Guided Example – Together, we work through an example question. At this stage, I involve the student by asking questions such as “Where could we go from here?”, or “Have a go at [x]” to ensure they are actively engaged in the process. 3. Practise and Support – Once the student is comfortable, we would move onto a slightly harder example together. I would then provide 2-3 practice questions for them to solve independently using Superprofs’ Interactive Tools, and offering guidance when needed. 4. Progression and Critical Thinking – If time allows, I introduce a more advanced or contextual question that requires critical thinking rather than a simple application of a formula or method. This helps the student build confidence in tackling unfamiliar problems. This interactive and structured approach ensures students understand the required material, practise effectively, and develop the skills needed to excel in both their exams, and further education. Typical Lesson Durations My lessons are typically 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the students' needs and focus. For those requiring a quick review, or information on a smaller topic, 30-minute sessions are ideal, while 60-minute lessons are great for larger topics or in-depth understanding and practise. I can adjust lesson durations for more intensive preparation or challenging topics as per the students' needs. My Qualifications and Experience GCSE Results: (concealed information), including 9s in Maths, Physics and Computer Science. A-Level Results: A*A*A* in Maths, Physics and Product Design, and an additional A in AS-Level Further Maths. Informal Tutoring: Often helped classmates with GCSE and A-Level material, including teaching an A-Level Chemistry student the necessary maths concepts required for their course, and guiding peers through programming challenges in Computing. Leadership and Teaching Skills: As a part-time fitness instructor, I’ve developed strong communication and motivational skills, teaching individuals of various age ranges. I also led a group of GCSE students during a Dyson Foundation Engineering Day, where I guided them through a designing and prototyping task. Who Are My Lessons For? I currently focus on GCSE students, helping them to excel in Maths in particular. I plan to expand to GCSE Further Maths and A-Level Maths tutoring once I have refreshed my knowledge of both syllabuses. My lessons are best suited for students aged 14-18 who wish to improve their grades, build confidence in maths, and develop key critical thinking skills.
