About Isabella
Having had been a tutor and been tutored myself I know what it is like to be on both sides of the table. Experience as a student and a teacher has given me the tools I need for you to succeed.
My tutoring experience has gone as far back as my first years in high school and have continued through my college years. I am a third year in college, currently back home taking classes at the College of San Mateo but will return to my college of UC Davis.
My experience:
-1 yr. at Homework Central (tutoring organization)
-4 yrs. at Reading Partners (tutoring organization, specifically for developing a child's reading and comprehension skills)
-tutored as part of my high school honor societies (Math Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, the National Honor Society)
-took Honors English 9th and 10th grade, and then AP English Language and Composition (pass with a 3), and AP English Literature (pass with a 4).
-passed with an A in my UC Davis class: Comparative Literature-Great Books in the Middle Ages
-taken and passed with an A with all UCD classes that fulfill the writing requirement component of the university (Global Humanities, American Studies, Comparative Literature)
-continuously grading papers for friends and family
-an active author, poet, and writer (published both a book, poetry and own a blog)
-pursuing a career in education

Teaching method:
-to make sure I create a comfortable, yet conductive environment. No work and progress can get done if the student isn't comfortable with me or in a space that is not conductive for success.
-to follow and examine the student's teacher's guidelines, rubrics and preferred writing styles. (If there is one thing I have learned from all the English classes I have taken, it is that every teacher has their own style and how they would like their students to write/rules they'd like them to follow). There are some skills and specifics that are followed by most English teachers that I will teach, but I find it imperative to pay attention to the teacher's guidelines.
-attentive towards the student. Each student learns and absorbs information differently, and I plan to adjust to how they would like to be taught
-I want this to be very interactive. I have seen for my own eyes that it is always best that they interact, ask questions, etc. versus me just lecturing or re-writing an essay for them. It is my job to provide the tools, and their job to use them---I will assist in anyway I can so that when the job is done they can use these tools independently.
-Lastly, I want to make sure that in the end they are not only successful, but that the student is proud of their work. I want them to say "I did this. I accomplished this."
