About Jon
I'm really passionate about helping people develop their skills and creativity in making theatre and creative writing and most of my career has been dedicated to helping people build their confidence, talent and own unique creative work. When teaching acting I work with a balance of traditional actor training (Stanislavski-based naturalistic acting) combined with a more playful approach (Chekhov, Spolin, Johnstone, Meisner etc). I've taught acting on the degree at Plymouth University and for Theatre Royal Plymouth, Exeter Northcott Theatre and Barbican Theatre, developing a performer training model that you can make your own. I've prepared people for LAMDA exams and Drama school auditions, with students I have supported getting into Rose Bruford, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and Guildford School of Music and Drama. I also love to teach and mentor creative writing, especially playwriting. I've worked leading creative writing workshops and as a dramaturg supporting playwrights for around 15 years, including as Literary Associate at Theatre Royal Plymouth and for Down Stage Write theatre company. My industry and teaching experience gives me a great background to help upskill you and support you to push your own creative practice as an actor or writer. If you are currently a student on a degree I can also help guide your written work whether coursework, portfolio or essay.

Hello! I have 20 years' experience working in theatre since graduating from University of Exeter with a degree in Drama and an MA in Playwriting. I'm a theatre director and playwright—directing new writing, Shakespeare and outdoor/immersive theatre and writing one-person shows, full-length plays and poetry. I've worked for or with Theatre Royal Plymouth, Barbican Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, British Youth Music Theatre, Northcott Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, Salisbury Playhouse, Hall For Cornwall, The Writers Block, Minack Theatre as well as teaching at the University of Plymouth for six years as a lecturer in Acting and Directing. I also create work with my own companies Down Stage Write and Open Plan Theatre. I'm currently touring a one-person show 'Is Anybody There?' and developing a play with Paines Plough theatre company.
