About Ihsin

Hi! I’m currently based in London, where I studied Dance Performance. Alongside teaching Mandarin, I have a deep love for the arts and enjoy practising Chinese calligraphy as well as traditional Chinese and Taiwanese opera. If you’re interested in these cultural traditions, I’d be delighted to share and explore them with you during our lessons.

About the lesson

My lessons are entirely personalised. I begin by getting to know your goals — whether you’re learning Mandarin for travel, work, or simply to explore Taiwan’s wonderful food culture. Every session is tailored to your needs, and we can adjust the focus whenever you like. I emphasise practical, real-life conversations and engaging speaking practice, supported by images and audio. I can also record short practice clips for you to review after class. Together, we’ll create a clear learning plan so you can notice real progress within just a few weeks. My aim is for the lessons to feel like learning Mandarin with a friendly guide rather than a strict teacher.

I tailor my lessons according to different levels and needs. Here’s an example for intermediate learners who want to improve their listening and speaking skills:

Lesson Structure

1. Free-topic chat and conversation
- Start with topics that interest you, encouraging free expression
- I provide immediate feedback on pronunciation and word choice, offering natural ways to express yourself

2. Themed chat and conversation
- Focus on specific themes (e.g., culture, work, travel) for deeper conversation
- Practice relevant vocabulary and common sentence patterns to strengthen practical skills

3. Review of the day
- Go over important vocabulary and sentence structures that appeared in class
- Discuss any difficulties in expression and ways to improve

*Post-class materials

- You will receive a document and audio files containing the vocabulary and sentences from your lesson
- The content comes from words and phrases you used or learned during the class
- This approach allows you to learn from your own life and practical usage, making the language more relevant, memorable, and useful

This structure helps learners practise speaking naturally in conversation while reinforcing what they’ve learned through personalised review.

I’ve added a short video below from my Taiwanese opera sword dance performance. Although it isn’t directly related to my Mandarin lessons, it represents my passion for sharing culture. I believe that language learning is also about connecting with people and understanding their stories — and that’s the spirit I bring into my teaching.
