About Henry

Hi, I'm Henry! I'm originally from Venezuela, grew up in several different countries, and currently live in Houston, Texas. Having spent much of my life in international environments, I've developed a strong appreciation for language, communication, and connecting with people from different backgrounds. I'm fluent in both English and Spanish.

I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Marketing. I also hold a 120-hour Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) continuing education certificate from Texas A&M University.

I've worked as a writing consultant at the University of Houston, where I conducted one-on-one consultations with students from different academic disciplines. My work involves helping students strengthen their writing, organize their ideas, and communicate more clearly and effectively. Beyond tutoring, I have professional experience in journalism, content writing, and communications.

These experiences have given me a strong foundation in English writing and communication, as well as an understanding of the importance of patience, constructive feedback, and adapting to individual learning needs.

Outside of academics and work, I enjoy soccer, following sports, and learning about different cultures. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and helping students develop their English skills with greater confidence.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed around your individual goals, whether you're looking to improve your English grammar, reading comprehension, writing skills, or conversational fluency. I believe that everyone learns differently, so I take a personalized approach that focuses on your strengths, challenges, and areas for improvement.

I like to begin by understanding what you want to accomplish. From there, we can work through exercises, reading materials, writing samples, or conversations tailored to your needs. Rather than simply correcting mistakes or providing answers, I focus on helping you understand the reasoning behind improvements, encouraging questions, and giving constructive feedback that you can apply independently.

For students working on essays, academic papers, or other written assignments, I can help with organization, clarity, sentence structure, grammar, argument development, and revision strategies. For those interested in improving their spoken English, we can focus on conversation practice, vocabulary, pronunciation, and communicating more naturally and confidently.

My approach draws on my experience working individually with university students as a writing consultant, as well as my TESOL training. I aim to create a supportive, engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, practicing their skills, and learning from mistakes.

Whether you're a student preparing for academic coursework, an international English learner, or an adult looking to strengthen your communication skills, I'll work with you to develop lessons that fit your goals and learning style.
