# 1. Start with Communication First
Focus on **speaking and understanding before grammar rules**.
**Example:**
* Asking simple questions: “What did you do yesterday?”
* Let students answer freely.
* Then introduce the grammar rule (past tense).
This approach is similar to **Communicative Language Teaching**, where grammar is learned through real communication.
# 2. Teach Grammar in Context
**Instead of:**
* “Today we learn Present Continuous.”
**Using context:**
* By showing a picture: “A boy is playing football.”
* Ask: “What is he doing?”
* Students answer: “He is playing.”
This helps students naturally understand **Present Continuous Tense**
# 3. Use the PPP Method
A classic teaching structure:
1. **Presentation** – Introduce the rule with examples
2. **Practice** – Students do exercises
3. **Production** – Students use it in conversation or writing
Example lesson:
* Teach **Simple Past Tense**
* Practice: fill-in-the-blanks
* Production: “Tell a story about your weekend.”
# 4. Use Games and Activities
Games improve engagement and retention.
Examples:
* Grammar quizzes
* Sentence-building race
* Role play
* Word cards
Students remember grammar better when learning is fun.
# 5. Encourage Reading
Reading improves vocabulary and grammar automatically.
Good activities:
* Short stories
* News articles
* Dialogues
* Comics
Students start recognizing patterns like **Subject–Verb Agreement** naturally.
# 6. Teach Through Writing
Ask students to:
* Write short paragraphs
* Keep daily journals
* Write stories
Then correct grammar gently and explain mistakes.
# 7. Use Technology
Helpful tools:
* Duolingo
* Grammarly
* BBC Learning English
Students can practice grammar interactively.
# 8. Use the “Notice and Correct” Technique
Instead of interrupting students:
1. Let them finish speaking
2. Write incorrect sentences on board
3. Ask students to correct them
This improves awareness without hurting confidence.
**Golden rule:**
**Less rule memorization + more real language use = better English learning
