About Shannon
I graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with my M.A. in Psychology. Following graduation, I worked as a counselor, psychological associate and, finally, as a Special Education teacher. After teaching Special Education for several years, I stayed home to homeschool my own children, which I have now been doing for the past 16 years. During that time, I continued to teach and work with children in various settings: homeschool co-ops, Girl Scouts, 4H, private tutoring, etc. I have also worked with adult ESL students in group and individual settings. For the past several years, I have taught K-2 and middle school in a private school setting.

I tutor in many subjects, but I most enjoy teaching ESL and reading. Having a firm grasp on the English language and reading paves the way for all other subjects; and, I just love those 'a-ha' moments when a concept finally clicks for a student!
In addition to reading and ESL, I offer tutoring in math through Algebra II, language arts subjects (K-12), science (K-8, Physical Science, Biology), history (K-12), and FCAT/SAT/ACT prep. (Please feel free to contact me about any subjects not listed.)
My style of teaching is definitely eclectic; I am not a rigid proponent of one particular style. I understand that each student is different, and flexibility in my teaching is an absolute necessity! Regardless of what style works for a student, I always try to bring an element of fun to it, as well as praise and encouragement for effort and even the smallest of successes.
