About Jack

Teaching English is my passion, as it allows me to help young people master the vital skill of communication, both written and spoken, while guiding them to reach their full potential. I believe that strong communication is a cornerstone of success, and I strive to equip my students with the tools they need to express themselves confidently and effectively. I have always had a deep love for reading and literature. Fiction, in particular, offers us a unique lens through which we can explore the human experience, understand diverse perspectives, and draw meaningful connections to the world around us. Whether it’s discovering new ideas, delving into timeless stories, or analysing powerful texts, I am passionate about sharing the joy and richness of English with my students.

About the lesson

I am a dedicated English tutor with a background in secondary teaching, both in the UK and internationally. My teaching style is skills-focused, with an emphasis on explicit modelling and instruction to build confidence and foster eventual independence and creativity in the subject. Lessons are varied and engaging, blending discussion-based activities with written tasks and analytical essay work, particularly for GCSE and A-Level students. With experience teaching AQA and Pearson Edexcel English Language and Literature, as well as a personal familiarity with the CCEA curriculum, I bring a comprehensive understanding of the demands of different exam boards. My specialisms include a range of core texts such as Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, Blood Brothers, and Frankenstein, as well as diverse units on topics like travel writing, Gothic fiction, Greek myths and legends, and story writing. I previously led an English department at a British International School in Dubai before returning to Northern Ireland, where I now bring my expertise to support students in achieving their full potential. Whether you’re looking to strengthen core skills or explore the richness of English literature, my lessons are tailored to meet your individual needs and goals.
