About Rob

I am 60 years old and have utilized real math in my career. By favorite topic at high school was calculus; however, that is not the student base I want to help. I graduated from Queen's University with a BA in economics. I have used my math skills in finance. I have a great rapport with kids and help all of my nieces and nephews get through high school. I will need your help with the curriculum you want assistance with.

My philosophy: focus on the following principles:

Individualized Approach: Recognize that each child learns differently. Tailor the tutoring sessions to match the unique learning style, strengths, and weaknesses of the student.

Conceptual Understanding: Emphasize the importance of building a strong foundation in mathematical concepts. Help students understand the underlying principles and connections between different topics in math rather than relying solely on rote memorization.

Utilize hands-on activities, real-world examples, and interactive methods to make learning math enjoyable and relevant.

Problem-Solving Skills: Develop problem-solving skills by presenting students with a variety of math problems, encouraging them to use critical thinking, logic, and creativity to find solutions. Foster resilience and teach them that making mistakes is an essential part of the learning process.

Confidence Building: Instill confidence in students by providing positive reinforcement, celebrating their achievements, and helping them overcome challenges. Encourage them to take risks and persevere through difficult math problems.

Practical Application: Demonstrate the practical applications of math in everyday life to enhance the student's motivation and understanding.

Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open lines of communication with the student, their parents, and teachers. Collaborate with other educators to ensure consistency in teaching methods and reinforce the concepts covered in school.

Remember, an effective tutoring philosophy goes beyond teaching math concepts. It should also foster self-confidence, love for learning, and a growth mindset in students.
