About Segen

As a former GCSE student myself and as someone who is still in education, I have an enormous amount of advice to give. Any question you ask, I will most likely be able to give you some guidance.

I don't just teach the subject but I teach, how to revise it, how to make good quality revision material and how to balance your studies and social life and physical health too.

I haven't given any formal lessons but I have taught many of my friends GCSE topics they were struggling to understand. My friends say I explain things in a much more simple and clearer way than teachers do.

I have also tutored primary school students which has taught me how to be patient and persistent even when your tutee feels like giving up or is simply bored.

While I may not have a degree I know for a fact I offer much better quality tuition lessons than many other tutors. I have had countless tutors but have never been satisfied by their teaching method as it always felt incomplete and unorganised - the

About me:

My lesson structure:

My teaching methods:
I make sure that all of my students have a printed copy of the specification for the exam they are preparing for. Many tutors overlook this but I believe it's vital to give students a sense of control - on the day of the exam they will know exactly all the information the exam board excepts them to understand and apply.

After this I will discuss the goals of my students or what they hope to get out of their tuition lessons. I am fully committed to helping students reach their goals and I truly believe that any goal is attainable with hard work and consistency.

After this I will ask the student which parts of the course they have covered or if they are just starting their GCSEs and have not covered anything at school yet. In both cases I would recommend that you cover the entire course with me but if you are short on time or money then the student can choose a few topics that they would like help with.

Teaching now heeho:
I teach a topic at a time.
I will work through the textbook and explain the information. By elaborating on the information in the textbook I will help the student to more thoroughly understand the content. I ask little questions to prompt thought in the student and also to ensure they are engaging. This verbal active recall is the first step in remembering the content for an exam.

Upon completion of a sub topic, I will give the student exam questions to answer and mark the questions with them showing them the mark scheme in the next lesson. This is THE MOST VITAL part in success in your exams and achieving the grade you want. It's important that you use ALL the past papers and any other exam style questions available to you. Understanding and memorising the content is of course very important but I would say exam practice should occupy around 40% of your revision time. I strongly advise against finishing the whole course or the course for one paper before doing exam style questions. You do not need to do an entire paper in one go every single time. If you feel that time management is a problem for you in exams then it is ok to do past papers in timed conditions from start to finish. If a student is not finishing an exam on time it is either because they struggle the digest the information given to them in the questions or they have not revised enough and are struggling to recall the information. Personally time management was not a problem for me but one problem I had was writing down an answer and being confident that i had all the information for the three marks but then only getting 1 or 2 of the marks. This was particularly a problem with Biology. With Biology tests and sometimes even Chemistry, it can be difficult to get 100% due to the nature of the specificity of the mark scheme. However if you know the content inside out and have done all the past papers, remembers the answers of the questions you got wrong and have a sense of the way the exam board expects you to respond to a question, you will be guaranteed at least 85% which is more than enough for a grade 9.

My lesson structure:
My lesson structure will vary according to the goals of my student. Learning content and exam practice will usually be two different lessons.
In the first taster lesson I will discuss your goals and briefly teach maybe part of a subtopic.
In the actual lessons the first 40 minutes will be spent l
