About Daphne
I am a violinist and teacher specializing in historical and modern violin. I began my violin studies with Theodora Stathopoulos and at the McGill Conservatory of Music with Jean Grimard at age three.
Moving to Greece, I continued my studies first with Yiannis Vatikiotis and later with Vasili Papa at the Orpheion Conservatory of Athens, receiving the highest level Performance Diploma in 2007.
I relocated to London in 2008 to pursue my interest in historically informed performance, studying with Walter Reiter; first at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and then at the Royal Academy of Music, from where I hold a Master of Arts in Historical Performance.
My teachers have included Margaret Faultless, Rachel Podger, Adrian Butterfield and Julia Wedman. I have also had lessons with Jeanne Lamon, Simos Papanas, Christopher Verrette, David Staff and Tricia Ahern. I have played in baroque ensembles at all the London Conservatories (Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance), and received scholarships to participate in the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute in Toronto and the Dartington International Summer School in Devon, England.
As a modern violinist I participated in the Academy of Music Festival in Nyack, NY, studying with Isaac Malkin. I have also participated in masterclasses by Bernhard Hartog and Grigori Zhislin.
I enjoy a performing career in both North America and Europe. I have performed with ensembles such as Florilegium (UK), Charivari Agréable (UK), The Hanover Band (UK), Little Baroque Company (UK), Camerata Antica (UK), Collegium Musicum, Cambridge (UK), Jeune Orchestre Atlantique (France), Musicians of London (UK), and in the London Handel Festival.
I have been teaching for the past seventeen years. I am a tutor at École FACE and also maintain a private teaching studio in Montreal.

Learning a musical instrument can be an equally exciting and daunting journey. Having gone through ups and downs myself throughout my musical career, I value the need to have a constant love of music and a nurturing, supportive teacher. I aim to create a solid technical foundation in all my students, regardless of their age, and create a challenging yet supportive environment. Being a Suzuki kid myself, I love having come full circle, and sharing the principles of the Method with both Suzuki and traditional students.

Daphne gave my sons a wonderful introduction to Suzuki violin. She has a magical way with young children, striking a balance between playfulness and encouraging respect for the instrument and musical study. She was a great support to me, giving helpful guidance as I navigated the challenges of at home practice. Finally, she is enthusiastic about the benefits of the Suzuki method while bringing a balanced view as a traditional teacher as well. We so enjoyed studying with Daphne and we miss her!
Daphne is genuine, kind, passionate, and funny - just about everything you would want in a teacher! In a time where I found myself in a rut with the violin, Daphne's instruction helped me fall back in love with the instrument. Not only did her teaching greatly improve my style and technique, but it also introduced me to baroque, a whole new side of music, which I now love. I not only consider her a fantastic teacher but a wonderful friend.
Daphne and I studied Baroque violin in London (at the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music respectively) and later met while on faculty at the South Shore Conservatory near Boston, MA. We both taught traditional and Suzuki Method private lessons, coached masterclasses and co-led workshops at SSC, and performed together in several period ensembles.
Daphne's students are truly lucky to have her as a teacher. With a high level of experience and and insight, Daphne is invested in helping her students develop a secure technical foundation and become expressive, well-rounded musicians. Daphne is adventurous, driven and caring. And she loves cats!
