About Rachel
My name is Rachel, but my friends and family call me “Rae” or “El.” I’m a freshman at Western Michigan University studying for my bachelor’s in biochemistry. I also serve as the Secretary for the Pokagon Youth Council, and Parliamentarian for the National Congress of American Indians Youth Commission. Additionally, I’m a writer and artist. I am very passionate about the arts, especially ballet, writing, and illustration. I find a lot of joy in the areas, and knowing that I can inspire people through the arts has been one of my greatest accomplishments. My favourite thing about teaching is seeing how happy people get when something clicks, especially in dance and illustration.

I have been a frequently published writer in the Pokagon Band Newsletter for almost 3 years. These writings include research findings, advocating for different causes, informational writing about different conferences that I have attended, and snippets of my own book that I plan on publishing in late 2026/early 2027.
Lesson plans include academic essay, research, and creative writing. I can also assist in understanding journalism and college application essays. I teach writing by first reading the work: showing how I would write the work: asking about the person’s usual writing style: then editing the original piece to be more formal, yet have that person’s flair to the piece. Additionally, I can teach students about the basic techniques of writing (logos, pathos, and ethos), help with finding a student’s writing style, and understanding the different types of writing.

I price my lessons based on what is needed, how long the lesson(s) will take, and what my availability is as well as the students. Since I am new to teaching, I want to be fair in my pricing but also not undermine myself.
