About Jeb

Hello, My name is Jeb and I was born and raised in Stoke Newington, London. I'm from a low-income, single-parent, first-generation-immigrant household, I received the highest Spanish grade in my school during my A levels, and I am currently doing my final year of studies at the University of Exeter. I am 23 years old and live in Hackney, London at the moment. My background is originally South African and I have seen much of that country, as well as travelling extensively in Portugal, South Eastern Europe and Colombia. Exploration and travel are important to me, and my experiences in other countries have led me to develop an interest in foreign languages. My next language to learn will be Portuguese as I am setting up an off grid environmental project over there. One of my greatest passions is Tai Chi, and I have been practising for 6 years now. Being the meeting point between meditation and martial arts, I have found it’s daily practice to be deeply enriching physically and mentally. I hope to set up my own school in Portugal one day. I'm a great fan of animals and the outdoors, so lessons outside or in houses with pets are welcomed and encouraged (weather permitting of course). My English classes in Colombia with the Kogui tribe were not always held in classrooms and so I feel comfortable teaching in most environments.

About the lesson

My degree is Modern Languages, and I have just completed my 6 month placement, working abroad in Colombia teaching English to underprivileged Hispanic and Indigenous people. I spent 2 months of my time working with the Kogui tribe in isolated mountain communities and my experience teaching English to children who spoke Spanish as a second language pushed me to develop a comprehensive and engaging pedagogy. I have found that genuine interest and engagement are key tools for making real progress in any language. As such, my lessons are designed to be enjoyable and informative. I use a pragmatic approach, prioritising the most essential aspects of the language to help my students develop a strong foundation. My lessons usually last between half an hour and two hours, and my degree has trained me in teaching grammar, vocabulary, translation and speaking. I am a versatile teacher, having had experience tutoring children from the ages of 7 to 17, as well as adults aged up to 50. Although I am most comfortable teaching GCSE and A Levels students I would be more than happy to help students of any age with whatever they would like to work on, be that exam preparation, speaking practice or coursework. I consider it a pleasure to teach as I have a great passion for linguistics and the Spanish language. ¡Hasta luego!
