Music has been my passion since childhood, and my goal as a teacher is to make learning the violin both enjoyable and result-oriented. I focus on building strong fundamentals, musical expression, and confidence in every student. I believe every learner has their own pace and style — and I tailor each lesson to bring out the best in you, whether you want to learn for hobby, performance, or certification.

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

My name is Jyotiprakash, and I specialise in violin. I have been learning the violin since my childhood and have completed my Trinity grade examinations. Music has always been a part of my life, and I started my journey with Indian classical music at a young age, which helped me build a strong foundation in melody, rhythm, and expression.

Over time, I also explored Western music, where my teacher played an important role in developing my interest in great composers like Beethoven and Mozart. This exposure helped me understand different musical styles and techniques. The combination of Indian and Western training has allowed me to develop a versatile approach to both playing and teaching the violin.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

For me, teaching music feels like continuing a legacy. What I received from my teachers was not just knowledge but a way of understanding and feeling music. I see teaching as a way of passing that experience forward.

The most motivating moments are when a student starts to connect emotionally with the instrument, when the violin is no longer just strings and notes but a voice of expression.
  • How does your work help society?

Music creates a balance that is often missing in everyday life. In a world full of noise and distractions, learning an instrument like the violin teaches patience, deep listening, and inner focus.

Through my teaching, I try to help students slow down, become more aware, and express themselves meaningfully. In that sense, music is not just a skill but a lifelong companion.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

My role models are both my own gurus and great violinists like Itzhak Perlman. From my teachers, I learnt discipline, depth, and the true essence of music, while artists like Perlman inspire me with their expression, tone, and connection with the audience.

This combination motivates me to not only focus on technique but also help students understand the emotion and storytelling behind music.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring music beyond boundaries: different cultures, styles, and sounds. It helps me stay inspired and constantly evolve as a musician.

I also spend time in quiet practice and reflection, as I believe creativity often grows in stillness. Beyond music, I enjoy observing art, nature, and everyday life, which often influence my musical expression.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

I once had a student who struggled not with technique, but with confidence. Every note was played with hesitation. Instead of correcting mistakes constantly, I encouraged the student to simply play freely without fear.

Over time, something changed; the playing became more open, more expressive. It reminded me that sometimes, teaching is not about adding more but about removing fear. That transformation is something I will always remember.
